🏆 RHS Award of Garden Merit

Cucumber 'Burpless Tasty Green' F1 Seeds

The most digestible, most flavoursome, and most reliably productive outdoor cucumber available from seed — an RHS Award of Garden Merit F1 hybrid producing long, slender, dark green fruits with thin, tender skin, mild sweet flesh, and the particular quality of being genuinely kind to the digestion that gives it its memorable name.

The name is unusual, the cucumber is exceptional. 'Burpless Tasty Green' addresses the two most common complaints about cucumbers — the bitterness that can make them repeat on some people, and the thick, tough skin that requires peeling — and resolves both entirely. The fruits are long, slender, and smooth-skinned, with a thin, tender exterior that needs no peeling, flesh that is mild, sweet, and refreshing rather than sharp or bitter, and a texture that holds its crispness remarkably well even in the warm conditions of a productive summer greenhouse. The 'burpless' quality comes from a very low concentration of the cucurbitacin compounds responsible for the bitterness and digestive discomfort some people experience with conventional cucumbers — this variety contains so little of these compounds that it is genuinely well-tolerated even by those who normally avoid cucumbers entirely.

As an F1 hybrid, 'Burpless Tasty Green' brings consistent hybrid vigour to all of the qualities that make it outstanding — reliable germination, uniform fruit size and colour, strong resistance to cucumber mosaic virus, and a sustained, prolific fruiting season from July through to October. It performs well both in the greenhouse and outdoors in a warm, sheltered position, making it one of the most adaptable cucumbers in the range, and its all-female flower production means there is no need to remove male flowers to prevent bitter fruits — a task that many growers find tedious and easy to get wrong. This is the cucumber that converts people who thought they did not like cucumbers.

🏆 The Cucumber That Wins Over Non-Cucumber Eaters

Cucumis sativus 'Burpless Tasty Green' F1 is the cucumber for everyone — reliably productive, disease-resistant, award-winning, and with the particular quality of being genuinely mild, sweet, and digestively comfortable in a way that converts people who thought cucumbers were not for them. Grow it in the greenhouse for the earliest and most abundant harvest, outdoors against a warm wall for a thoroughly satisfying summer crop, and always alongside Basil — not just for the pest deterrence, but because a bowl of burpless cucumber and fresh basil with good olive oil is one of the finest and most effortless things the summer kitchen garden produces.

Be a smarter gardener

Gardening organically is a more affordable and long term alternative to using chemical fertilisers. Natural Grower products eliminate waste because the nutrients are slowly released to the plants as they need them. Over the long-term you save money because your soil health naturally improves, which in turn produces healthier, stronger, disease resistant plants. Chemical products may cost less financially in the short term, but they don’t provide any long-term benefits and the damage they do to the natural eco-system in the soil is costly.

Slow release for sustained growth

Organic fertilisers are broken down slowly by organisms in the soil to produce a more measured, consistent, natural release of nutrients. This results in uniform growth with strong stems and leaves, unlike chemical fertilisers which provide a sudden boost resulting in tall lanky plants. Stronger plants are more resistant to disease, and with the presence of mycorrizhal fungi to strengthen the roots, the plants, soil and fungi all work together long-term to create the perfect natural eco-system.

Love your land

The organic matter in Natural Grower will help keep your soil or compost in optimum condition, retain moisture over the dry summer months and improve the health and structure of your soil. The presence of natural Mycorrhizal fungi in our products enhances root growth, enabling plants to extract nutrients and absorb water more efficiently from the soil or compost. By using our products you will be supporting and enhancing the natural eco-system in the soil.

Embrace sustainability

Natural Grower’s chemical free fertiliser products are approved organic, biodynamic and vegan. Plant-based and free from chemicals they are safe to use around wildlife, pets and children. Eco-friendly and sustainably produced in the UK. Our packaging is made from recycled plastic where possible and is all 100% recyclable. We are always happy to refill used containers, and often sell our products in reused containers or slightly damaged packaging at a reduced price. Reduce, reuse, recycle.
