How does Plant Feed & Soil Improver work?

Natural Grower Plant Feed & Soil Improver provides nutrients while adding organic matter to the soil. It is gradually broken down by earthworms and other organisms living in the soil, providing a long-term, slow-release source of nutrients while helping to improve soil structure and the growing environment around plant roots.

How much should I use?

  • When planting: Add approximately two handfuls directly into the planting hole.
  • As a mulch or top dressing: Apply a 1–2 inch layer over the surface of the soil around established plants.
  • Mixed into soil or compost: Mix 1 part Plant Feed & Soil Improver with 5 parts soil or compost.

What can I use it for?

Natural Grower Plant Feed & Soil Improver can be used for:
• Vegetables and fruit
• Flowers and flowering plants
• Roses
• Trees and shrubs
• Raised beds and vegetable beds
• Pots and containers
• Hanging baskets
• Indoor houseplants

Does it help improve soil?

Yes. Plant Feed & Soil Improver adds organic matter to the soil, helping to improve soil structure and support the organisms naturally living within it. Earthworms and other soil organisms gradually incorporate the material into the soil as it breaks down.

Does it help soil retain water?

Yes. When mixed into soil or compost, or applied to the surface as a mulch, the organic matter helps the soil retain moisture, which can help reduce how quickly soil dries out during warm, dry weather.

Can I use it as a mulch?

Yes. Apply a 1–2 inch layer around established plants. As well as providing slow-release nutrients and adding organic matter, the layer helps retain soil moisture and suppress weed growth.

When is the best time to apply it?

Natural Grower Plant Feed & Soil Improver can be used throughout the gardening year, with spring and autumn particularly useful times to apply it.
In spring, add it to planting holes, beds, borders, pots and containers as plants begin active growth.
In autumn, apply a 1–2 inch layer around established plants as a mulch or top dressing. Earthworms and other soil organisms will gradually incorporate the organic matter into the soil over autumn and winter.

What is the NPK?

Natural Grower Plant Feed & Soil Improver has an NPK of 4.1-2.2-3, providing nitrogen to support plant growth, phosphorus for root development and potassium to support flowering and fruiting, together with trace elements.

Is it suitable for organic and vegan gardening?

Yes. Natural Grower Plant Feed & Soil Improver is Approved Organic by the Soil Association. It is also Certified Biodynamic by the Biodynamic Association and Certified Vegan by The Vegan Society.

Do you need a larger quantity?

For larger gardens, vegetable plots and beds, our Natural Plant Feed & Soil Improver – 50L Bag contains exactly the same Plant Feed & Soil Improver in a larger size.

Be a smarter gardener

Gardening organically is a more affordable and long term alternative to using chemical fertilisers. Natural Grower products eliminate waste because the nutrients are slowly released to the plants as they need them. Over the long-term you save money because your soil health naturally improves, which in turn produces healthier, stronger, disease resistant plants. Chemical products may cost less financially in the short term, but they don’t provide any long-term benefits and the damage they do to the natural eco-system in the soil is costly.

Slow release for sustained growth

Organic fertilisers are broken down slowly by organisms in the soil to produce a more measured, consistent, natural release of nutrients. This results in uniform growth with strong stems and leaves, unlike chemical fertilisers which provide a sudden boost resulting in tall lanky plants. Stronger plants are more resistant to disease, and with the presence of mycorrizhal fungi to strengthen the roots, the plants, soil and fungi all work together long-term to create the perfect natural eco-system.

Love your land

The organic matter in Natural Grower will help keep your soil or compost in optimum condition, retain moisture over the dry summer months and improve the health and structure of your soil. The presence of natural Mycorrhizal fungi in our products enhances root growth, enabling plants to extract nutrients and absorb water more efficiently from the soil or compost. By using our products you will be supporting and enhancing the natural eco-system in the soil.

Embrace sustainability

Natural Grower’s chemical free fertiliser products are approved organic, biodynamic and vegan. Plant-based and free from chemicals they are safe to use around wildlife, pets and children. Eco-friendly and sustainably produced in the UK. Our packaging is made from recycled plastic where possible and is all 100% recyclable. We are always happy to refill used containers, and often sell our products in reused containers or slightly damaged packaging at a reduced price. Reduce, reuse, recycle.
